video documentary - "where you're going

Former shop steward, Serge and Franco, take us back to the Liege aluminium rolling plant where they worked and shared many experiences until the plant closed, as a consequence of economic restructuring, with the loss of 102 jobs.

Time moves on. They meet again in a reconversion unit where, together with the FOREM vocational training counsellors, they help their former workmates prepare to find new jobs.

The film follows the social and professional ups and downs of eight of them, at the same time guiding us through the everyday social and economic realities of the Liege industrial region.

How do these workers get through the toughest moments? How do they see their future and that of the Liege region?

Where are they going?

This documentary has been produced by the Free University of Brussels (www.ulb.be) in co-operation with Mostra Communication (www.mostra.be), and focuses on the basic challenges that regions face when structural changes appear. Enterprises are forced to close down their activities and people, especially those with little education, find themselves without jobs. But this documentary shows how difficult situations can turn into situations with new possibilities for the individual, were hidden competencies or new jobs provide new and even sometimes better futures.
